A Perfect Day for The Magic Flute

Portrait of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart created/published c. 1913. Prints & Photographs Division, Library of Congress.

Earlier this week I was alerted to an exciting new addition to the wonderful World Digital Library – Mozart’s holograph manuscript for The Magic Flute! The manuscript, held at the Berlin State Library, is now fully accessible online and I can’t think of a better day to share it with our In the Muse readers than today, Mozart’s birthday. To learn about other digitized Mozart materials available on the Performing Arts Encyclopedia, check out guest blogger Daniel Walshaw’s blog post from last year where he discusses the music of Mozart that is closest to his heart.

There’s so much to read and view online, but you simply can’t let the day go by without listening to at least a little bit of the genius’ music; therefore, I leave you with the charming and playful Papageno, Papagena duet from The Magic Flute available in the Library’s National Jukebox. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Wolfgang!
